Rewiring older homes
Weatherboards and Victorian cottages around the inner west often have wiring as old as the house, sometimes on circuits nobody can explain. A full or partial rewire sorts that out, but most homeowners worry about the mess and the time it takes.
What the job involves
Full and partial rewires of weatherboards and Victorian cottages.
What's included
- Full or partial rewiring of the house's circuits
- Cable runs routed through roof and subfloor to limit cutting into walls
- Patching of the spots that do need cutting
- Testing every circuit before handover
- A plain-English rundown of what was replaced and what wiring remains
How we run a rewiring older home job
- Step 1:
Tell us what's going on with the house and send photos if you can
- Step 2:
We visit the site for a proper look, since a rewire quote needs to match your actual house
- Step 3:
You get a fixed price agreed before work starts
- Step 4:
Cable is run through the roof space and under the floor where possible, cutting only where we have to
- Step 5:
Everything is tested and we walk you through what was done and where the patches are
Questions we often get
Does my old fuse board need replacing?
Not always straight away, but older ceramic-fuse boards often have no safety switches. We'll look at it and tell you what we'd recommend and why.
How messy is a rewire?
Less than most people expect. In most period homes we can run cables through the roof space and under the floor, so we only cut where we have to and patch those spots.
Can you install an EV charger at my place?
Usually, yes. We check your supply, your switchboard and the cable run to where you park first, then quote the whole job.
Do you come out after hours?
For urgent faults like no power or a safety switch that won't reset, we'll come when one of us is available. After-hours rates apply and we'll tell you what they are first.
Can you replace my two-pin power points?
Yes. Old two-pin sockets have no earth, so we check the circuit and wiring behind them before fitting new earthed outlets.
Which areas do you cover?
Yarraville, Seddon, Footscray, West Footscray, Kingsville, Spotswood, Newport, Williamstown, Maidstone and Altona North.
How the job is priced
Rewires are quoted as a fixed price after a site visit, since plaster condition, roof and subfloor access, and how much of the house needs rewiring all change the job.
